Neuroinclusion: A Series Of Whys! Part 2: The Perks!
Oct 02, 2024
Eyup Lovelies!
Welcome back to part two of our series exploring the "whys" behind why we do what we do here at IMUK!
Last week, we dove deep into the core mission that drives everything we do here. We explored the societal and ethical reasons for embracing neuroIinclusion in the workplace, and how this aligns with our values and the values many of you hold dear too!
This week, let's get down and dirty with the perks – the juicy benefits that make neuroinclusion a win-win for both businesses and employees!
A Treasure Trove of Talent
First things first, let's address the elephant in the room (or maybe it's a delightfully chatty parrot in this neuroinclusive metaphor).
Estimates suggest around 20% of the UK population identifies as neurodistinct.
In reality, the number is likely to be waaaay higher - but with lengthy assessment times and ongoing stigma, it's tough to pin down an exact figure.
So, we'll work with what we have—20%.
Even at 20%, this figure represents a goldmine of untapped potential!
That's a huge pool of talented individuals who might be overlooked by traditional hiring practices.
Beyond Productivity!
Companies that embed neuroinclusion into the fibres of their organisation aren't just being ’woke’; they're being smart.
They're not only scooping up talent that others are overlooking (intentionally or not!) but they are benefiting across their whole business from the injection of diversity into their organisation, and let's face it, that's like finding a tenner in your old coat pocket—unexpectedly awesome!
*Thats the second time we’ve used woke in a blog! Whats happening to us!! Lol π
Except, with neuroinclusion, the benefits are far more substantial and long-lasting.
It's not just about boosting productivity and innovation (though those are definitely decent perks).
It's about creating authentic spaces that puts the human back into humanity and work!
Places where EVERYONE feels valued and understood regardless of any intersectionality never mind neurotype!
Think better job satisfaction, smoother communication, and stronger relationships with bosses. Like upgrading from a soggy packaged sandwich to a nutritional and delicious gourmet meal—everyone's happier, content, and more productive.
Happiness: The New Currency
Gone are the days when a hefty paycheck was the sole measure of success.
Today, happiness is the new currency!
Nearly 70% of job seekers would walk away from an opportunity if they sensed a toxic work environment.
The average UK employee would take a pay cut for a happier work experience!
Happiness might be a personal journey, but it's definitely something companies can cultivate.
And guess what?
Neuroinclusion is a giant leap forward in creating a happier, more fulfilling work experience for everyone.
Real-World Results

Let's keep it real!
Not every neurodistinct person is the same!
Diversity within neurotypes is as vast as the ocean —each one unique and with its own particular array of sea creatures.
Our has mermaids, lots of singing and sharks don’t exist! #JustSaying
Seriously though, let's ditch the superhero cape expectations, not just for neurodistinct individuals but for everyone!
As we have all witnessed many times on the football pitch, one good player does not make a good team!
Here at IMUK we are moving away from the ongoing discussions of neurodiversity.
Of course the conversation around neurodiversity is crucial, but it's only the first step! Once understood and accepted there isn’t much more to be done with it! It’s here whether we like it or not.
We're all about action!
By collaborating with forward-thinking organisations to create environments where everyone can have their time on the pitch, play to their strengths, and are excited to pass the ball to work together seamlessly as a team!
(Can you tell we’ve been watching football! π€£) β½οΈ
