Let’s talk reasonable adjustments. A hot topic, right?

We all agree: employers SHOULD create neuroinclusive workspaces. That’s a given.

BUT… (Here we go!)

Plot twist: YOU have a MAHOOSIVE role in this too!

If you don’t know what you need, how on earth can your employer figure it out?

Let that bad boy sink in for a minute…

Employers don’t have Crystal Balls 🔮 (well, maybe some do—but you get my point! 😂). Regardless of their role, rank, or pay scale, they’re humans just trying to get it right—just like the rest of us. #StopDehumanisingEmployers

Understanding your unique neuro-identity isn’t just a personal journey; it’s a shared journey. We need to start meeting each other in the middle.

This means both sides working together to build relationships and having real, honest conversations.

Conversations?

They’re a two-way street—especially when it comes to figuring out what works for you! It’s not about dropping vague hints or hoping they magically “get it”; it’s about co-creating solutions that actually work

.

 This applies to EVERYONE.

Neuroinclusive workplaces aren’t just for one particular diagnosis or neurotype—they’re for ALL employees. And yes, that includes making reasonable adjustments.

FACT: Regardless of any intersectionality—and despite what some may think—we all have a brain 🧠!

#Surprise 😱

Each brain is entirely unique, that’s why Neuroinclusion is the true future of ALL spaces. It’s about meeting each individual’s needs—physically, mentally, professionally, and even spiritually—putting the human back into humanity!

Real Talk: employers are currently carrying ALL the responsibility for workplace wellbeing, including the implementation of reasonable adjustments, and honestly? That’s a crock of s%#t!

Because #NothingForYouWithoutYou right?

Your work life is YOUR life!

 That means:

👉🏼 Figuring out what YOU need.

👉🏼 Doing the work on YOU.

Then wherever possible (I’m not naive or ignorant. I know it’s not always safe to do!):

 👉🏼  Advocating for yourself.

👉🏼  Sharing your story.

Also:

If you see something, Say something!

It’s not just a railway motto—it’s how we learn and grow together. #Advocate #BeAnAllie

💡 Will mistakes happen? Absolutely.

However, in genuine psychologically safe spaces, mistakes aren’t headlines—they’re guidelines.

💡Will this approach always work? No.

You simply can’t force anyone—employer or employee—to participate in the process.

However, the point is we MUST try to remember that Neuroinclusion is a shared responsibility and we all have our parts to play. Particularly when it comes to understanding our own needs, so we can at least ask for the right support.

Yes, plenty of organisations are getting this wrong—sometimes catastrophically so—but not all. A fair few are genuinely trying and they cannot do this alone! So at some point, we need to stop sitting back and playing the blame game. (And yes, I’ve been guilty of this too! #AuthenticityAlways).

Reality check: No amount of research into diagnoses, situations, strategies, or best practices will make anyone fully understand YOUR lived experience. Only YOU can do that!

Bottom Line: Businesses don’t build themselves. People build them. And nothing magnificent gets built alone. We’re in this together!

👉 So, what’s one adjustment that’s changed your work life for the better? Drop it below—it could be the lifeline someone else needs!
